Remarks from the MassDOT Meeting on October 23, 2012

On October 23rd the Massachusetts Department of Transportation held a listening session at the Haverhill Public Library regarding the future funding of transportation in the Commonwealth.  One of 16 sessions scheduled Statewide, which started in September, and will continue over the next two months the meeting was designed as a "listening session" to hear what the transportation needs are, both public transit and roads/bridges, in the Merrimack Valley.  Of the 30 people who offered comments at this meeting 15 advocated for improved public transit service, including better weekday and Saturday frequency on all Haverhill routes, service on selected Holidays, adding Sunday service and later evening service and relieving overcrowding on selected Lawrence based routes with better frequency.  The following Remarks by the MVRTA Administrator Joe Costanzo were submitted to the MassDOT in support of additional public transit funding. >>
