The Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority (MVRTA), your public transportation service. The MVRTA serves the northeast corner of Massachusetts with over 1 million miles of city, suburban, interurban,
and rural scheduled bus routes.

 Route 51 Bus Schedule Change

The Route 51 will now Service Heritage House on Selected Trips only:

Weekday AM trips:           Leaves Heritage House at 10:13 and 11:23 (OUTBOUND) after servicing Port Plaza.                   Will not service Market Basket or Anna Jaques on these trips.

Weekday PM trips:              Leaves Heritage House at 2:05 and 3:15 (INBOUND) after servicing State and High Street.                Will not service Market Basket or Anna Jaques.

Saturday AM trips:             Leaves Heritage House at 9:51 and 11:07 (OUTBOUND) after servicing Port Plaza.                                 Will not service Market Basket or Anna Jaques on these trips.

Saturday PM trips:            Leaves Heritage House at 4:05 and 5:15 (INBOUND) after servicing State and High Street.                 Will not service Market Basket or Anna Jaques on these trips.

Boston Commuter Bus         The Boston Commuter Bus will drop off on Balmoral St. on the Inbound as well as the Outbound.  The bus will no longer travel down Haverhill St from York St. to North Main St.

ROUTE 51 BUS SCHEDULE CHANGE AND NEW ROUTE 51 RING & RIDE!

Effective July 1, 2007 the Route 51 bus will operate with minor time point and route changes. The changes will only affect the Newburyport portion of the route. The new Route 51 bus schedule is now available online. To view the schedule selct the Route 51 link from the yellow 'routes' menu tab at the top of this page. A NEW service called Route 51 Ring & Ride will provide residents of Newburyport who reside at Heritage House, James Steam Mill, Marlboro Street and Plum Island that will allow them to travel to any of the locations serviced by the Route 51 bus. EXPANDED WEEKDAY SERVICE!

Effective April 3rd, 2006 the MVRTA began expanded weekday service on all Lawrence based bus routes that operate out of the Buckley Transportation Center located at 295 Common Street in Lawrence. New schedules are available at the following locations:

Washington Square Transit Station in Haverhill

SENATOR PATRICIA MCGOVERN TRANSPORTATION CENTER IN LAWRENCE NOW OPEN!

The center opened for service on Monday December 5, 2005 beginning with the first Inbound train to Boston. The Center is located at the corner of South Union and Merrimack Street (211 Merrimack St.) one block east of the former Lawrence Station. Bordered on the north and east by the state of New Hampshire and the Atlantic Ocean, the MVRTA's service area includes Andover, Amesbury, Haverhill, Lawrence, Merrimac, Methuen, Newburyport and North Andover. The Authority also provides service to the Lowell Transit Center for connections with the Lowell Regional Transit Authority LRTA.

Welcome aboard... we're glad you chose the services of the MVRTA and we pledge to do whatever we can to make sure you get to your destination quickly, safely, and in comfort. The MVRTA operates Monday through Saturday, however service will not operate on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents' Day, Patriots' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.</
 

Need to get to Northern Essex Community College?

There are two services available to reach NECCO. You may take the Rte. 01 to Washington Square Transit Station and transfer to the Rte. 51 which will then take you to NECCO throughout the day. You may also take the NECCO Shuttle which leaves The Buckley Transportation Center in Lawrence and goes directly to NECCO. Please see the following times for the NECCO Shuttle:
